Hey there, brilliant band of co-conspirators,
Below are some notes I made from last night's gathering. They're a bit rough, but I think they cover the important stuff, so feel free to use them as a reference/reminder if they're helpful.
In the meantime, to help us get together an accurate contact list, please send me a blank note from the ONE email address you want us to use as your contact addy for this project. In the subject line, please put your full name and the ONE phone number you'd also like us to use as a means to reach you. I'll put the updated contact list together and send it around to everyone as soon as I've heard from you.
Great to meet/see everyone last night. I'm thinking people's minds are going to get blown between May 31 and June 9.
cheers,
Mark

i. Logistics & schedule
Show is May 31-June 9, Thursdays thru Saturdays
Script to Globe by mid-February 2012: then we go into rehearsal until end of May
Developmental artists can then remain involved or not at their discretion
We've been invited to San Francisco for the fall of 2012!
We want a 'mobile 'show for fringe festivals, etc.
iii. Creative vision & development experiment
We all have until October 3 to play with our material from Chrystene and generate some ideas.
In the meantime, get involved in the blog! Post ideas, found materials, questions, discussion points, etc.
Homework:
Re-collect a time you felt lost, misunderstood, out-of-body, isolated, near-death experience: any moment in which you connected with another realm or disconnected from this one: any little moment that was profound and mind-altering in some way.
With that moment in your mind/spirit, play with the writings you've received from Chrystene and generate some sort of creative content.
Along with that content, bring some sort of object that relates to it.
Don't try to "tell a story" or be concerned about narrative, sense, or quality. Just an honest, simple piece.
Budget & grant options:
Sask Arts Board has closed down their artistic venture grants programs
Might be a grant for new projects, possible/probable Oct. 15 deadline
Mark will set up a meeting with Arts Board
Other possible funding sources:
SaskCulture? City of Regina? Corporate sponsors? Bahai, Unitarian Church, St. Michael's Retreat?
General discussion:
Chrystene's image: circular, cyclical, a round playing space
Joanne is also intrigued by circular, "enclosing" spaces: Self-isolation, perceptions changed by total deafness.
Can we deprive audience of a sense, replace it with another sense? Play with sound and sight so that it misleads or misdirects?
"Troughs" that people can step in to generate sounds. Set could possibly be an "instrument" or feature numerous "instruments" that can play Jason's compositions.
Visual/auditory illusions: what's real and what isn't?
Time as non-linear
Mess with people's minds and what they perceive as "real"
Illusions the audience knows are illusions, see how they're done
Wind in a black theatre, or sudden smells.
Will likely do most of our work individually and through the blog, gather monthly to find connections, touch base, etc.
Next meeting: Monday, Oct. 3, 7 p.m. at the Film Pool
Mark: Will develop a calendar for the blog and search for possible rehearsal spaces
